Vio Group Sponsors Gala Dinner in Dubai in Support of Children’s Education

VIO Corp’s Gala brought together industry leaders, telecom executives, NGOs and society figures from across the globe. The event was attended by H.E. Ross Miller, Consul General of Canada in Dubai and Ms. Sharon Avery, Chief Development Officer for UNICEF Canada. The gala was held on the side of Capacity Telecom Conference – the annual largest flagship event for the Middle Eastern and international carrier communities.

“The thrust of our support for the UNICEF and other groups is to help further educational opportunities in the region focusing mainly in Afghanistan,” said Sheryl Cohen, Managing Director of CSR for the Vio Group.

At the Gala Vio announced the signing of a MOU with Roshan and Global Learning to work together to support digital educational in Afghanistan by bringing content and bandwidth to the country.

Attendees enjoyed the inspirational speaker Shabana Basij-Rasikh, founder of the School of Leadership Afghanistan (SOLA) who described  the need and hardship of obtaining education for girls in Afghanistan. Vio and its partners have selected SOLA as its first project and will use it as an example of what can be done with the advances in digital technology.

Shabana tells of the struggles for women to get educated in Afghanistan.

The gala was also an opportunity to explore Vio’s plans and the possibility of using the Cloud Campus programs in Afghanistan.  It is worth mentioning that Vio Group has established a program Vision for Kids that donates computers to underfunded schools in the Vancouver area and has plan to expand it throughout Canada this year.

Vio believes the main basis to achieve its goals and the ability to reach out to over 100's of thousands of children in need of education in Afghanistan is through internet. Vio is working with Afghan authorities in both educational and telecommunication sectors to deliver high capacity Bandwidth to Afghanistan in the next six months.
